Prof. François Bastian

Professional French Horn Player

François Bastian was born in Forbach (France) in 1987. He had his first French horn and percussion lessons at the age of five at the Forbach music school.

In 2003, he studied with Prof. Peter Arnold at the Hochschule für Musik in Mannheim, and the year after with Prof. Sibylle Mahni at the Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst Frankfurt am Main. After graduating from high school in France in 2005, he became a student of Prof. Marie-Luise Neunecker at the Hochschule für Musik „Hanns Eisler“ Berlin. During his studies, he was a member of the Schleswig-Holstein Festival Orchestra and played with the Junge Deutsche Philharmonie. From 2008 to 2009, he was a fellow of the Bavarian Radio Orchestra Academy.

Since 2009, François Bastian is a member of the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra. Furthermore, he became a member in 2015 of the Bayreuth Festival Orchestra. He performs on a regular basis with the Berlin Philharmonic, the Bavarian State Orchestra as well as German Brass.

From 2017 to 2019, François Bastian was assistant teacher at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater München. In 2020, he became professor for horn at the Hochschule für Musik Saar.
